Millenials and Homosexuality

Post  DavidMorin2 on Tue Nov 22, 2011 3:58 pm

So here's my topic: changing attitudes regarding homosexuality, particularly in relation to Millenials. Do Millenials have a different or more sophisticated viewpoint than their parents' and grandparents' generations did? What about all throughout the course of human history? C'mon, I've got to focus this thing! Okay, well, in what the facts??? Where's the data, the numbers? Well, I've got some good studies which have been conducted in regard to changing viewpoints, particularly among young people today.

Some issues I'd like to touch upon are gay marriage, the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, GLBT's in pop culture, etc. Moreover, I want to look at the evolution of GLBT identies and acceptance as part of a broader, historical progression...Millenials aren't special, it's just history. Okay, I'm going to be late for class!!!! Oh no, I'd better leave now.

So I know first drafts are due tomorrow and this is probably too late, but oh well.

There's definitely a lot to cover and I think you could make some pretty interesting statements on GenY's attitude toward things in general with it (change, acceptance, I can't be bothered with your sex life because I'm too busy being narcissistic, etc).
The only thing that I think might be tricky is bias, not only with how you write it but with that of your sources. My original idea was hate crimes, not specifically LGBTQ but related, and I gave it up pretty quickly because there was no way I could write a paper without it becoming a giant soapbox. But then again, it's one of my button issues, so if you think you could do it, it would make for an interesting paper and a good presentation.
It all depends on the thesis, though. "GenY is more okay with gay marriage" doesn't really say much, but "GenY's acceptance of gay marriage shows the trend towards so-and-so in the society" would have a lot more meat to it.
